Overhaul of shaft lining of blast furnace #4 for “Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works”, PJSC
We repaired the shaft lining of blast furnace #4 for “Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works”, PJSC,
from December 2022 to April 2023. The process consisted of two stages:
– pouring cooling plates with refractory concrete;
– lining the furnace shaft after installation of cooling plates (shotcrete of the bosh area, lintel ring, flare and shaft; injection of refractory concrete into the kiln housing).
By mid-March 2023, we completed the first stage of the project, making the lining of 210 cooling plates.
The second stage of the overhaul took four days and was completed ahead of schedule. That became possible due to the use of modern equipment and new technologies for applying materials. For the project we used modern wear-resistant refractory materials with a hydraulic-ceramic bond, specially developed by the company Seven Refractories to resist thermal cycling. In total, during the process of pouring cooling plates, more than 300 tons of vibro cast-in-situ concrete was poured. During shotcreting of the blast furnace shaft, more than 650 tons of shotcrete based on high-mullite chamotte was poured.
